Welcome to my website. Incallajta – the name of my business means ”the land of the Incas” because it is Quechua, Aymara and Guarani peoples who make the goods, and most of these people are, like me, descended from the Incas.

The Great Empire

Who were the Incas and where did they come from? If you had asked them, they would have told you proudly that their first great ruler, Manko Qapaq, was sent to Earth by his father Inti, the Sun. Manko Qapaq’s queen, Mama Okllo, was believed to be the daughter of the Moon.

The Inca Empire was the largest ever known in all the Americas. It included at least a hundred different peoples. The Incas were clever governors and did not always try to force their own ideas upon other groups. Conquered peoples had to accept the Inca gods, but they were allowed to worship in their own way and keep their own customs.

The Incas believed that they were superior to all other people. In reality, they were just the last link in a long chain of civilizations.  They shared many beliefs with these peoples, often taking over their technology and crafts.

This vast Empire seemed as if it would last for ever, but in 1532, something happened to change that - Spanish soldiers landed in Peru greedy for gold and land.
